Real RVers chime in on what their favorite RV resort and campground activities are…
People love camping for different reasons. Some love to explore new places by hiking, while others like to nap or read a book in their favorite travel hammock.
The neat thing is that there is no shortage of campground activities you can enjoy while RVing.
If you boondock or camp in a more rural spot, you can take part in quiet activities in nature. Or you can stay at a campground or resort that has many different activities to offer!
Recently, one of our RV Lifestyle Facebook members named Mary asked our group a great question. She asked:
“What are some activities that you enjoy most at campgrounds/resorts?”
Of course, our RV Lifestyle members gave her lots of great ideas about what they love to do when traveling. The post got over 150 comments!
9 Favorite RV Resort & Campground Activities
The following is a list of different campground activities that our RV Lifestyle Facebook group likes to enjoy at and nearby RV campgrounds and resorts.
If you already have your favorite “go to” camping activities, see if you made the list. Otherwise, you can get more ideas of fun things you can do when adventuring in your RV.
1. Water Activities
Many resorts have different water activities on their properties. They include swimming pools, jacuzzis, and lazy rivers and they were one of the most-mentioned activities in the comments.
During the warm temperatures of summer, a dip in the pool can feel really refreshing. Billy commented, “I’d say right about now, the pool.”
When it’s hot and sticky outdoors, nothing is more refreshing than a dip in the pool, especially if you did something active in the morning like hiking or playing pickleball.
In addition to sitting or floating in a pool, many resorts offer aquatics classes. They may include water exercise classes or swimming pool volleyball.
2. Sports activities
I know that swimming and other aquatic activities are a type of sport. But many respondents said they enjoy other types of sporting activities. They include sand volleyball, pickleball, fishing, kayaking, hiking, and biking.
You can participate in different sporting activities across the country, no matter where you are. Many people also like to combine their adventures. For example, they like to fish from their kayak (I’m hooked on kayak fishing!).
Another sport mentioned by Randy is golfing, and plenty agreed with him. Some of the fancier resorts have golf courses attached to their grounds. Just beware that they come with a hefty overnight price tag.
In addition, many people enjoy nature photography. This goes well with many of these sports as well. You can hike or bike to a cool spot to get photographs that you wouldn’t otherwise be able to capture.
A lot of people like RVs because they can see lots of new things whether they’re driving or parked.
You might choose to stay in a campground inside a national park so that you have easy access to incredible sites. If you do, just know that those parks can get quite crowded in the high season. For most parks, that is May through October, depending on its location.
One RV Lifestyle member, Shanna, said she likes to go “tubing on (the) river.” While this is a sporting activity, it is also a fun way to sightsee in different areas or parks.
Yosemite National Park in California is a great place to go tubing and take in all the wondrous beauty of the park. Other states around the nation have similar set-ups.
4. Enjoying Peace and Quiet
Many of our members responded with different variations of liking peace and quiet.
One humorous response came in from Tim. He said that he enjoys “people not asking me questions.” Of course he was being funny, but many people enjoy the quiet solitude that camping can bring.
Charlie seconded this idea. He said he likes “listening to the birds and not kids” when he travels.
It sounds like Charlie would appreciate 55 and Older RV Campgrounds.
Mike and Jennifer’s RV Lifestyle hat collection
Who needs a hat? You do! Dad hats aren’t just for dads. This comfy one’s got a low profile with an adjustable strap and curved visor. Just the thing to wear on your next RV lifestyle adventure.
Another activity that many people mentioned that does not come directly from a campground or resort is reading. But since so many of our members suggested it, I am including it on this list.
It appears that many people like to take a good book when they camp. They can sit in their zero gravity chair, throw their feet up, and dive into a story.
All they need is a cozy campground with a beautiful view!

6. Dining at local restaurants
Another fun activity does not necessarily take place inside the campground or resort (but it can!). Many people like to try out new restaurants in the town they are visiting.
One member, Mary, said that she likes to check out “breweries, wineries and locally owned restaurants.” Jennifer and I are the same way!
Perhaps she will run into another RV Lifestyle member, Luke, who says that his “favorite (activity) is drinking tequila.” His answer is humorous, but many people do love trying out different adult beverages (responsibly) that are offered in town.
Many different states have wine roads, microbreweries, or distilleries that you can check out if you like to do that sort of thing. If this is your cup of tea (or, rather, a glass of wine), I recommend the following:
Many of our members said that they like to relax when they camp. So, all they want from a campground is a nice place to stretch out and enjoy nature. That, and a pleasant place to visit with family and friends.
Many people enjoy not having to keep a schedule when they are travelling. It allows them to decide what they feel like doing, when they feel like doing it.
Many others included the happiness that having a campfire brings.
One member, named Janis, said that she likes, “Quiet neighbors, space between sites. Ability to have a campfire.”
Another member, Heather, said she likes, “Sitting around the fire with friendly people chitchatting the night away.”
I love sitting around a campfire, too, especially if we’re also enjoying Easy Campfire Snacks & Treats.
Socializing is another big appeal to people when camping. Countless members said that they enjoy meeting other travelers, or sitting around a fire chatting with other people.
Camping provides a relaxing way to socialize with other people who also enjoy being out in nature.
I know meeting new people can cause anxiety for some. If that’s you, I recommend reading How to Make Friends While Camping.
9. Other amenities
A lot of people mentioned specific campground amenities rather than activities. I think they’re certainly worth a mention.
Many campgrounds and resorts provide convenient amenities to help make your trip go a little smoothly.
They often mentioned places having laundry facilities and showers. Those are certainly useful after all of the swimming, sporting, lounging, and campfire activities you enjoy! Just be sure to be up on your campground laundry etiquette.
