Atlanta weather Thunderstorm warnings in parts of the region

11Alive is the latest weather developments.

ATLANTA – In the midst of a heat wave descending on north Georgia, some counties have seen severe thunderstorm warnings on Tuesday.

Also, a severe thunderstorm watch until 8 pm was issued for much of metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

It originally covered much of metro Atlanta and north Georgia but included in the afternoon, only Carroll, Heard, Coweta, Troup, Meriwether, Pike and Lamar counties.

The reason for this sizzling middle of June is a large heat dome building in from the west. The jet stream pushes north, trapping the southeast in an extended stretch of hazy, hot and humid afternoons with limited afternoon storms.

So far thunderstorms have developed in the farther edges of north and east Georgia.
