RICHFIELD — In the sea of insurance and Medicare options, shoppers often encounter a fair share of confusion and pitfalls. Having a partner to help traverse those waters can be vital, according to Mark Malloy, sales manager at Richfield-based Packard Agency LLC.
“There are a lot of options out there — a lot of materials get sent in the mail, on TV, online — and a lot of people try to [shop] themselves,” he said. “We can narrow plans down to your needs. Insurance is a foreign language to most [but] we speak it very well.”
Established in 1979, Packard Agency, located at 4199 Kinross Lakes Parkway, is a distributor of products for individual, Medicare and group employer benefits. In addition to distribution, PackAgency develops marketing programs to assist agents in finding new clients and providing them with continuing support services, according to the company’s website at www.packardagency.com.
Malloy said Packard Agency works with most major insurance carriers and the company’s “typical client” is someone seeking an individual health insurance plan, as well as those age 65 or over and eligible for Medicare coverage plans. He added that Packard Agency also serves those 62- to 65-year-olds who are on disability and eligible for Medicare, and the agency also provides annuity investment for clients.
The company develops plans for Medicare supplements, Part D and Advantage Plans; individual healthcare plans; group employee benefits; life, dental and vision insurance; travel insurance; and short-term medical plans.
On the individual health plan side, Malloy said employee health insurance plans are still the norm for the majority of individuals, but Packard Agency can also provide advice on these plans.
“There are plenty of people still covered by their employers and that is our number one recommendation,” he said. “But for some [an employer provided plan] does not make sense or is too expensive.”
Malloy added that Packard Agency also offers plans for sole proprietors and small businesses.
Apart from its more than 40 years of experience in the insurance industry, Malloy said Packard Agency’s personalized service also differentiates it from other agencies.
“What sets us apart, number one, is that we are a local company,” he said. “We do business in other states, but 95% of our business is in Ohio.”
Malloy said Packard Agency provides free consultations and “customers will never pay us a dime.”
“We are paid by the insurance companies when we write a plan,” he explained.
He added that currently the insurance industry is in the middle of its “busy time” of the year, with the Medicare open enrollment period for most Medicare recipients running through Dec. 7. The open enrollment period allows both first-time and current recipients to make changes to their plans.
Packard Agency’s office hours are weekdays from 8 am to 6 pm, but agents can meet with clients on Saturdays as well as by appointment. For more information, visit the website or call 330-659-9331.
